At the October 2016 charge conference, our district United Methodist Men (UMM) president, Alden English, presented an opportunity to serve others. “Travel to Pennsylvania for a day, work in an assembly plant (any skill level), build carts to ship worldwide, providing mobility for those who cannot walk.” Having just retired, I said “This is for me!” Soon I was riding to Mt. Holly Springs in Alden’s vehicle with five men, from different churches. While some assembled carts from scratch, I helped prepare boards, including using a router to smooth the edges. I enjoyed the day so much that I presented the idea at the December UMM breakfast at Grace, and we now have a team that goes the first Thursday of each month. We leave Gaithersburg about 7:30 a.m. and return around 3:00 p.m.
