Grace UMC loves to welcome new guests! We invite you to join us for worship on Sunday! Here are some helpful things to know about in-person worship.

We’re so glad you’ve decided to visit us! You’ll find a list of commonly asked questions below. Please don’t hesitate to send us a message or give us a call at (301) 926-8688 to let us know you’re coming!

HOW DO I GET THERE?

Grace UMC is in the heart of Gaithersburg along Route 355 (Frederick Avenue). Our address is 119 North Frederick Avenue | Gaithersburg, Maryland 20877.

WHERE SHOULD I PARK?

If you’re attending Grace UMC for the first time you may park in the parking lot in the rear of the church, the entrance is on Walker Avenue. You may also park in the parking lot across the street from the church on Walker Avenue. Additionally, you are free to park along Walker Avenue. (Note: Please do not park in the shopping center parking lot next to the church which is accessible from Route 355 North.)

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Grace UMC has a “come as you are” atmosphere. You will see some dressed up; some dressed casual. We have no expectations for attire, we’re just glad you are here!

WHERE DO MY KIDS GO?

At Grace United Methodist Church we have special activities for babies, preschoolers, children, Middle School, and High School. Check the link for each page for more information on programming. You are welcome to bring your children to worship with you but we strive to provide excellent age-level ministries.

Our faith calls us to offer hospitality and protection to all children, youth and vulnerable adults, as well as those who are committed to ministering to them as volunteers and employees. At Grace UMC we implement Safe Sanctuary practices to ensure the security of our children and youth. All teachers and caregivers undergo a thorough background check before they’re allowed to serve with children. Our Safe Sanctuaries Policy Manual is available for review here.

WHAT IS A SUNDAY SERVICE LIKE?

Our Sunday services offer messages that are relevant to everyday life and each service lasts about an hour. Worship is for everyone who longs for God. We welcome you are in your journey of faith. Worship is about honoring and praising our Lord and Savior. It is a time when we gather together to experience the presence of the Holy Spirit, and express our joy and gratitude through scripture and song. The power of God’s word touches those who are hurting and awakens hope for the hopeless. We invite you to celebrate the good news in Jesus Christ!

HOW MANY ATTEND GRACE CHURCH?

We are thankful for each person who attends Grace UMC, and we believe that guests are special gifts from God! There are over 100 adults participating in Small Groups and Life-Long Learning classes each week and over 270 in weekend Worship Services at Grace.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH SMALL GROUP TO ATTEND?

Participating in a small group can deepen your relationship with God and help you to connect with others at Grace UMC. A variety of groups and classes meet on Sunday mornings. We invite you to take some time to visit them and discover which one best encourages your growth in faith right now. Greeters in the lobby will help you find your way when you arrive.

In addition, there are short and long term groups that meet during the week for study and fellowship. Information about these groups is available in the lobby as well.

WHAT IS THE MUSIC LIKE?

We select our hymns from the United Methodist Hymnal and the Faith We Sing. Central to any worship service is our historic pipe organ. Our worship services also feature our adult chancel choir with our youth and children’s choir often participating. We have a praise band that fills the sanctuary with joyful noise on a monthly basis. We also hear from our adult and youth handbell choirs. Music is a wonderful part of Sunday worship and we welcome anyone wishing to join! WHAT HAPPENS IN CASE OF SNOW OR EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS?

Check our website, call the church office at 301.926.8688, or check the local news regarding any schedule changes or closings. We follow the inclement weather policy of Montgomery County Schools.
