We Continue to Worship Online

When our doors remain closed to prevent harm, our hearts and minds are called to open even wider.

Dear Grace Family and Friends, The well-being of each one of you, and Grace UMC’s guests and neighbors, is our highest priority. We have been working steadily to re-open our building by November 1. However, this is a complex effort and more time will be needed to ensure a safe and welcoming re-entry. This will be a gradual process as we work to meet county, state, federal, and conference requirements. Our first step back into the building will be to start broadcasting our worship services in the sanctuary with a small team. Before this can happen, technology upgrades are needed. The Re-Entering Well Team, Trustees, and Church Council are working together to address this.

We continue to monitor Montgomery County guidance regarding the pandemic. Due to safety and capacity requirements, we are unable to open the building for use by the congregation until Montgomery County enters phase 3. We are currently in phase 2. The Baltimore-Washington Conference recommends that all high-risk congregants continue to participate in church life from home until at least phase 3. 70% of Grace survey respondents are high risk, or live with people who are high risk. In order to return to worship in the building, we need to have a reasonable percentage of the congregation who are both ready to attend and able to serve on-site to help support re-entry.

We have faith that God will make a way for Grace UMC to re-enter our building in the near future! We continue to plan and prepare for this time by working on procedures for practicing safe hygiene and physical distancing while moving through the building, developing a safety agreement for participating in on-site activities, creating systems for making reservations and attending on-site worship, inviting and training on-site well-being guides, and communicating wellness information with the congregation. We also celebrate the many and creative ways that Grace UMC continues to live and grow in mission with God and our neighbors! Our church is NOT closed – only the physical building is.

If you are part of a group or ministry that has not yet begun to meet online, I invite you to reach out to me for support. In the coming weeks, please check back here for more information about how we can all continue to serve as the church in the world during this season of change and transition.

COVID-19 Donation Requests

Gaithersburg HELP is in serious need of food as well as financial donations due to the huge increase in community need. Because many people have asked how they can help, we are offering the following three options―drop food off to either of two locations, ship food, or donate money. Details are provided below. Please note that if you already have an organization or friend collecting food for HELP, you may continue using that approach. Please follow this LINK for further instruction! Thank you for your concern and God bless you!
