Wednesday Conversation Series

We will be discussing the book God’s Time: The Bible and The Future by Craig C. Hill. During this 10 week study we will gather virtually via ZOOM every Wednesday, beginning September 9th at 6:30pm.

In God’s Time, a video-based adult Christian study, offers a faithful and credible Christian alternative to sensationalist perspectives of the Bible’s teaching about the End Times. Eschatology — the study of the “Last Things” and the belief in God’s final victory over evil, futility, and death — is at the heart of traditional Christian proclamation.

In this 10-session study, Dr. Craig Hill makes eschatology and the book of Revelation understandable to laypeople and experts alike. In God’s Time avoids the extremes of pulp fiction and high scholarly debate and instead opens up the entire Bible — encouraging Christians to take seriously the hope of God’s ultimate victory.

I am looking forward to our Wednesday night gatherings this fall.  An important part of these mid-week gatherings is the opportunities they provide to discuss God’s word together.  There are no quizzes and no one is put on the spot in having to answer questions. Yet the opportunity to discuss and discern is experienced.  Whether you are brand new to the Bible or a student of many years,I believe this time of discussion and fellowship is vital for all.  Our role as a church is to offer a message of hope to a world that is hurting.  Our ministry is needed now more important than ever.  Through our conversations we experience hope. I have selected this particular study for several reasons.  I met Dr. Hill over twenty years ago and participated in this study when his book was published in 2002.  I am so thankful for how he unpacks these often unexplained and often ignored parts of Scripture and brings forth hope.  As we work through scary times and deal with great uncertainty, it is my hope that we will experience renewed hope and certainty in the Lord as we journey together. ~Blessings, Pastor Jim

The Re-Entering Well Team is preparing for a future time when a safe and welcoming re-opening of the church building will be possible. This plan includes continuing to offer both online and phone access to worship and church activities for all who are safer at home.

We invite the entire congregation to support the Re-Entering Well effort. Please consider one or more of the following ways to participate:

1. Pray for the health and well-being of our congregation, staff, and neighboring community.

2. Reach out to others by phone, email, or written note with a message of Christian hope.

3. Join the Re-Entering Well Team. If you are interested, please contact Pastor Helen at 301-926-8688 ext. 20 or hballew@graceumc.org.

4. Sign up to serve as an on-site “wellness guide.” You will be trained to provide safety and hospitality support for in-person worship and other activities at Grace. When the building re-opens, wellness guides will be needed on-site each Sunday. Responsibilities will include welcoming, checking-in, and helping worshippers to follow all safety and wellness practices. Please note that wellness guides will be serving in place of greeters and ushers while physical distancing requirements remain in place. Greeters and ushers, as well as anyone who is interested in offering in-person hospitality at Grace, are all welcome to sign up for the wellness guide ministry. If you would like to find out more about this opportunity, please contact Pastor Helen at hballew@graceumc.org or 301-926-8688 ext. 20.

COVID-19 Donation Requests

Gaithersburg HELP is in serious need of food as well as financial donations due to the huge increase in community need. Because many people have asked how they can help, we are offering the following three options―drop food off to either of two locations, ship food, or donate money. Details are provided below. Please note that if you already have an organization or friend collecting food for HELP, you may continue using that approach. Please follow this LINK for further instruction! Thank you for your concern and God bless you!
